Jay Youngblood would debut at MLG in 1978 as part of a tag-team with Tony Atlas. The fans would take to the young star right away and he would become an important part of the later years of the promotion.
Teaming with veterans like Johnny Weaver and Pedro Morales would see him improve his skills and he would get a big win over Ray Stevens in 1980. On the next card we would see the Toronto debut of Youngblood and Steamboat defending their NWA Tag Titles and they would become one of the most popular teams of the era.
In 1981 Youngblood would get some headline bouts in the smaller towns around Toronto when Frank Tunney went back to running a circuit around Toronto. The popular star would get a good singles push here for the next couple of years, engaging in feuds with Ninja and an un-comfirmed AWA title shot against Nick Bockwinkel (Ottawa).
In 1982 he and Steamboat teamed to defeat The Privates for the Mid-Atlantic Tag Titles much to the fans delight, and in 1983 would repeat their (Carolinas) world title win over Slaughter and Kernodle.
The Canadian TV Title was also launched in 1982 and Youngblood beat The Destroyer in the finals of a tournament to become the first TV Champion. The title would remain on the backburner though, with Jay again teaming with Steamboat and holding the tag titles.
Youngblood would appear on several big Toronto cards including ‘The Night of Champions’ and ‘Return of the Champions’ in the summer of 1983, and would make his last appearance at MLG in Apr 1984 in a tournament to fill the vacant Canadian Title.
